Edgar Allen Poe uses his powerful words to create strong imagery in his stories and poems. Students were asked to illustrate what they imagined the House of Usher to look like based on Poe's writing. Such hauntingly beautiful pieces of art.

The Civics students are taking the lead to organize a series of October activities, all of which are focused on the Ottawa Municipal Election. The School will be participating in Student Vote, a mock municipal election, where students become informed voters and submit a vote to ‘elect’ one of the 14 Mayoral candidates and one of the City Councillor candidates for College Ward. In addition, AcadeCap will transform into ‘AcadeCap City,’ with each classroom acting as a Ward. Civics students will run as AcadeCap Mayoral candidates and one student from each classroom Ward will be elected as an AcadeCap City Councillor. Later in the month, the elected individuals will participate in a mock City Council meeting and work collaboratively to develop solutions to improve AcadeCap City for the benefit of all its citizens.
The Grade ⅞ students are excited about their new course which focuses on building 21st century skills. This activity focused on non-verbal communication and teamwork. For this activity, a leader was given the challenge of leading a team to build a bridge using only non-verbal instructions. The students reflected on the importance of non-verbal communication and how instructions need to be clearly understood to accomplish a task well.
To begin an investigation of the key macromolecules important to cellular function, the biology students were challenged to build a 3D model of the linear form of glucose and to demonstrate how the functional groups interact to create the ring form.
With the full moon upon us, and Halloween in the not too distant future, we are exploring Atmospheric stories and poetry by Edgar Allen Poe. To kick off our unit, students delved into the life of Poe and created a body biography. After reading a few of his poems, students compiled a list of words that Poe uses which are synonyms for " CREEPY."Our Science 9 students are starting the school year with a hands-on investigation as they begin a unit exploring the nature of matter. By the end of the unit, they will each demonstrate an understanding of the nature of matter, including the structure of the atom, physical and chemical properties of common elements and compounds, and the organization of elements in the periodic table.
Mme Christine A fetal pig dissection provides a hands-on opportunity for students to engage in an investigation of anatomy and physiology. The fetal pig is chosen because it has body systems that are similar to the human body systems. During the dissection, students make links between structure and function and begin to identify interrelationships between the circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems.
The PSSP students have created and presented amazing TED-style talks on a wide variety of inspiring topics. During the TED-Ed Student Talks Programme students analyzed TED Talks and then developed their own TED-style talks. They participated in the full process starting with idea generation and progressing to the development of their throughline, completion of background research, writing a script with story arc elements, such as an emotionally appealing personal story, and adding effective visual aids. Then they applied presentation style techniques to polish their presentations and they recorded their talks on the iconic TED-Ed red carpet.
Science 9 students used their skills of observation to explore a classic oxidation reaction. They then researched the reaction's applications.
